MARIANNE FAITHFULL
Strange Weather

$14.99

Released in 1987 "Strange Weather" was once described by some music critic as "music to slit your wrists by" which Marianne Faithfull took as a compliment. On this perfect album full of melancholy, her smoke and whiskey-voice creates a work of perfection. She is a world-weary, ravaged woman who has dark, knowing tales to tell, whose whimsy has been replaced by woe.

Her interpretations of standards are singular from Leadbelly's "I Ain't Goin' Down To The Well No More" to Jerome Kern’s "Yesterdays". Tom Waits' title track is the album's moody centerpiece while obscure gems from Bob Dylan and Dr. John shine through the cloudy atmosphere. Here she reinvents herself with a staggering, bruised rendition of her 1960s mega-hit "As Tears Go By".

And when she breaks into the well-worn "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" she does so with the dark assurance of someone name-dropping a former address. A dark and challenging masterpiece, this is the album that redefined her amazing career. Unavailable for years, the album remained one of Marianne Faithfull's most requested titles... until now !

"Strange Weather" has been digitally mastered in 24bit/96kHz format and is offered for the first time in "limited edition" digipak format with complete lyrics, liner notes and lots more.
